Rising Above The Clouds

In 1988, Turkish Airlines (THY) was a loss-making state-run company with 27 airpianes of six differeııî types. it flew to 57 points in Turkey and nearby countrtes. it had an unenviable image, such that irate passengers had nicknamed it (T)hey (H)aîe (Y)ou Airlines. Today its 103-strong fleet flies to 138 points in a network stretching from Tokyo to Chicago. Its image has soared. Its growth rate is at least twice the European average. Although stili state-controlled, it is consistently profitable. A tearn led by the author initiated this transformation. This is the story of that effort and the various majör crises THY subsequently flew through. As a management "case" it is already being used in university courses. it is also an entertaining yarn with many colorful characters such as prime minisîer Turgut Özai. Its radar sweeps över many events and deveiopments in global civii aviation during the 1988-2003 period. During his career Cem Kozlu has serveti as a Member of the Turkish Parliamenî, Chairman and CEO of Turkish Airlines, Chairman of the Association of European Airlines (AEA), and as Group President of the Coca-Cola Company. He is currently on the Board of Directors of the Internationai Airline Training Fund (IATF) (CH) and TAV Airports Holding A.Ş. "Rising Above The Clouds" is his sixth book.
