Reading For Vocabulary

Reading for VOCABULARY is designed for both self-study and in-class use. The book is highly recommended to those who want to increase their vocabulary for various purposes, for instance to prepare for examinations such as KPDS, ÜDS, YDS, and KPSS, as well as to college and university students and academics who would like to improve their vocabulary. Reading for VOCABULARY, following a systematic approach to vocabulary development, is made up of 20 units, each of which includes a text selected from basic scientific fields of science and technology. Each unit is basically of ten sections. Keywords: Each single unit starts with a presentation of vocabulary items in sentences, allowing the learner to sharpen his / her guessing skills by examining the examples in real contexts. Definitions: What follows is to match the words examined with their definitions, so that the learner can be quite sure of what the words mean. Practice: Next, the learner is invited to a controlled-practice fill-in task so as to start to use the words studied. Collocations: The following section focuses on the pragmatic aspects, presenting the collocations of some of the words studied in the unit. Further Reading: Before the multiple-choice items, the learner is encouraged to visit certain websites for further reading by means of which he / she will have the opportunity to meet the words in similar contexts. Multiple-choice: In half of the units, the learner is provided with reading comprehension exercises and all the units include 10-item multiple-choice questions.
