I. Dünya Savaşındaki Osmanlı Sahra Postaları konusu 30 yıldan fazla bir süreden beri posta tarihçilerinin büyük ilgisini çekmiştir. Ama ne yazık ki malzeme ve belge eksikliğinden dolayı, Zvi Alexander'in olağanüstü enerjisini bu konuya odaklamasına kadar çok az eser yayımlanmıştır. Alexander 12 yıldan az bir sürede topladığı malzemeyle bu koleksiyonu oluşturdu. Dünyanın çeşitli yerlerindeki sergilerden aldığı madalyalarla belgelenen bu koleksiyon günümüzün en büyük posta tarihi çalışmalarından biridir. Savaşı pullar, posta kartları, damgalar ve zarflarla anlatan bu koleksiyon Osmanlı ordusu subaylarından Moshe Sharet (Shertok) ile Arif el-Arif'in yazışmalarını da içermektedir. Moshe Sharet 1948'de İsrail'in ilk dişişleri bakanı ve 1953'te de İsrail başbakanı oldu. Arif el-Arif ise, Filistin Ürdün denetimi altındayken Kudüs belediye başkanlığı, Rockefeller Müzesi onur başkanlığı ve eğitim bakanlığı yaptı. The topic of the Ottoman Field Post Office in the Great War has been of great interest to postal historians for more than 30 years; but the paucity of the material and the absence of documentary sources meant that very little appeared in print before Zvi Alexander focused his remarkable energy and enthusiasm on it. In less than a dozen years, he has put to gether what is not only indusputibly the best colection of ths material ever formed, the medals he has secured for it at exhibitions around the world are testimony to its standing as one of the greatets postal history studies of our time
